“Blockchain: Impacts and Potential Applications” is the theme of the 12th bootcamp of the BRDE Labs Program

A theme that should gain space over the next few years is the use of blockchain. The impacts and potential applications of this technology, which was used as the basis for bitcoin, the main cryptocurrency in the world, was the topic of the 12th Bootcamp of the acceleration stage of the BRDE Labs Program. The online chat, held last Thursday, 5, was conducted by the CEO of SOU.cloud and partner at TEEVO AS, Fabio Junges.

Junges detailed the operation of the technology, which guarantees the security and integrity of transactions. With it, is possible to carry out a secure transaction between two strangers, without intermediaries. “Innovation and technological development happen for those who are looking to try or explore the new. We are at an interesting moment, at the beginning of this wave of development. There is a lot of room for innovation and startups to incorporate blockchain into their projects ”.

It is possible to use blockchain in several scenarios, such as increasing liquidity for a given asset; many intermediaries in the company’s operations; need/desire to track the value chain; desire for transparency and symmetry of information; excessive bureaucracy, many steps or parties involved; improve customer relationships; compliance with the General Data Protection Law; reduce transaction costs, etc. When analyzing the use of technology in a startup, Junges explains that it is necessary to understand the real need for each case. “Is it for my company? A blockchain project may not want to start on a large scale. It is necessary to go slowly, in an embryo, that grows in relevance and becomes the modus operandi ”.

Junges said there is still a long way to go before the use of blockchain is widespread in Brazil. He understands that it is necessary to move forward in many aspects, such as the creation of a stock market and shareholding, in logic for startups, elaboration of corresponding legislation, ways of capturing and mechanism of distribution of income, and income for companies. The real estate market is an example of possible applications. “Instead of buying an apartment on the plant, you can buy a token, which represents a fraction of the property in the plant, democratizing the investment. Anyone becomes part of the market ”, he explains.

But, we still need to move forward. Junges points out that there is a key point for the development of this market. “Issuing is easy. But, you need to ensure that the token represents the real asset. Make sure I am not issuing tokens without ballast. We need to think about this control mechanism to give guarantees to the investor. When we think about blockchain, we see an opportunity ”.

At the end of the Bootcamp, a chat was held so that everyone could clarify doubts and discuss issues related to the various blockchain applications. The chat was attended by the 12 startups selected for the acceleration stage of the BRDE Labs Program: 2Metric, Besouro Agency, BioIn, DigiFarmz, Elysios, Essent Agro, Faba, Insumo Fácil, Palma Sistemas, Polvo Spot, Optim and Talos, as well as representatives from BRDE, VENTIUR, and the three universities part of the Alliance for Innovation (UFRGS, PUCRS, and Unisinos).
